Farewell Amsterdam

I didn't wake up until 10:20 this morning after 13 hours in bed. Norma and I made a mad dash to get to the restaurant for breakfast so much so that Norma realize later that her slacks were on inside out! We checked out at noon, stored our luggage, and headed out for a last bit of sightseeing. Passed by the flower market where Norma picked up a souvenir of Amsterdam - wooden tulips. We ended up at the flea market - the same the world over. We would have needed more time to search for treasures among the junk. We collected our luggage and taxied to the port terminal where all went smoothly. Have been through the mandatory life boat drill and are now enjoying a bottle of champagne as we sail to the sea.
Dressed for dinner and went to join the Social Travelers - singles who meet to attend dinner together. There we were pleasantly surprised to run into Sandra Burns who we met last year and Diana ? who also was on our previous cruise. There were two men who were also travelling solo, one of whom joined us for dinner. He hails from Melbourne, Australia. I told him of the wonderful day I spent birding at the Melbourne Sewage Lagoons. I am certain he thought me more than a little weird so I didn't mention that I have been to sewage lagoons in most of the countries I've been to. (The exception was with you, Nicole.)
Dinner took its time in coming but the wine steward made sure our glasses were never empty, and once dinner arrived it was delicious. We closed the dining room and staggered off to bed.
Both of us had a restless night which wasn't helped by the alarm going off at six a.m. We stayed in bed until eight, then adjourned to the dining room for Swedish crepes with lingonberry sauce in memory of the breakfasts we enjoyed last year. Took a turn through the shops then retired to our balcony. It was supposed to be a high of only 13 degrees but here we sit barefoot and jacketless in the sun on our balcony enjoying the soothing sound of the waves. Sheer Bliss. Nothing more to do today but eat, sleep, and maybe partake of some shipboard activities but only if we can bring ourselves to move.

  1. Seriously Mary Lou! What with all the fantastic trips you've taken, and the spectacular places you've seen, you pick the sewage lagoons as a topic of discussion... at dinner... with an eligible male? Sounds like you might need a little help from your friend back here! Glad to see that you still managed to close the dining room. Did he still have his shirt on?
